Welcome to Swan St. Studios

Swan Street Studios was founded in 1997, a large first floor warehouse in Richmond, Melbourne. It took six months to convert the space into artist's studios for commercial use. “I was living like a super-tramp immersed in rudimentary geometry and deliberate simplicity.”  The next step was to find professional artists who were not psychiatric patients and had the potential to inspire each other with optimism.  “A mix of minds, imagination and beliefs... solid creative artists, no matter how wild, who possessed a sense of purpose and never lost sight of what art is.  Looking back, I feel good about the venture, I can smile about the setbacks and successes. It has been fun and absurd, important and trivial, and it has produced intriguing hand-made art and continues to do so. The ever-present regenerative process of both traditional and innovative.”
